If He Had Been with Me is a touching coming of age story that was beautifully penned by Laura Nowlin. Autumn and Finny are childhood friends but during high school they lose touch with each other and go through different trials and tribulations at school. Nonetheless, there exists a very strong affection that still exists between them.

Throughout the story, Autumn is confused about herself and Finny who starts liking another girl and becomes the most popular guy in school. The book reflects the spirit of hilarious teen life, and illustrates the emotions of lost chances, alternatives, and passion in first feeling.

The end of the story is rather dramatic and inspiring … in the end, the fates of the characters(s) of the story cross in the most incredible and touching way, capable to move anyone, even Autumn, as well as the reader. This novel is incredible in its portrayal of youth, love, and the decision that ultimately define one’s life.
