Normal People by Sally Rooney is a story of intimacy and power between two Irish teenagers, Connell and Marianne, in the high school and college years stage. Connell is an attractive and well-liked man who suffers from the fear of rejection and Marianne is a woman from a working class who feels she does not belong anywhere. Regardless of the well-differentiated social status of the two main characters, there is the main plot that tells about the development of their relations.

actual love and infatuation, power and dependence, social status and connection, and how people’s situations influence their ability to be with one another. But as they grow up they experience miscommunication, internal torment, and insecurity about recognizing one another. Roooney’s prose is aimed to reveal how their affection transforms with time and affects the characters depending on their personal development as well as social expectations. Finally, “Normal People” is an incredibly moving story of love and the characters’ desire of finding their place in the world.
